What is aerospace avionics?

Aerospace Avionics Engineers perform and supervise the design, development, manufacture and maintenance work on the electronic systems of military and civilian aeroplanes, helicopters, spacecraft and satellites.

Aerospace Engineers repair, modify and test a range of electrical, electronics, radio communications and navigation system components. They also maintain, inspect and undertake fault diagnosis on aircraft equipment such as protection systems, autopilot, environmental control systems and radar and communication systems.

Aerospace Engineers are equipped to work in both airborne/space borne and ground-based electronic systems such as radar, communications and navigational aids such as Global Positioning Systems (GPS).

Avionics at QUT is a unique course in Australia. You will learn about aerodynamics, aircraft control systems, avionics navigation and communication.

In later years of the course, you can specialise in the design of aircraft and satellite systems including systems engineering methodology, aircraft and satellite technology.

Many of our teaching staff are involved in relevant research with government and industry sectors, ensuring the program is relevant to industry and giving you the opportunity to work in real projects during your studies.

The course has close links with relevant local and overseas industries. It meets the requirements for membership of Engineers Australia and the Institution of Radio and Electronics Engineers Australia.

It is also professionally recognised by many international professional institutions.

What is Film and Television?

Film and television stresses individual creativity in the areas of producing, directing, scriptwriting, cinematography, editing, sound or multimedia production.
Students work with digital equipment and are trained to industry standards by award-winning film and television practitioners.

Film and Television at QUT is located within the Creative Industries Faculty, which offers a range of leading courses which combine education, creativity and technology.

There are three bachelor courses in Creative Industries which are focused around film and television.

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts (Film and Television)
    This production-driven program is designed for those seeking to become leaders in creative practice in the film, television and new media industries. You can specialise in producing, directing, scriptwriting, cinematography, editing or sound.

  • Bachelor of Creative Industries (Television)
    This unique industry oriented degree will train you for the ‘ideas jobs’ in television—such as producing, researching and writing. In this degree you will learn how the television industry works, how programs get commissioned, and how they are actually made.

  • Bachelor of Creative Industries (Interdisciplinary) with a sub-major Screen Studies
    The sub-major in Screen Studies allows students to choose six subjects from the areas of film and television theory and language and film critique with specialist subjects on Australian and American film, international cinema, and film history.

Courses in film and Television are based at QUT’s Kelvin Grove Campus.
